David Segal gains the support of District 1199, SEIU, the New England Health Care Employee’s Union, (NEHCEU) as he wraps up the Jobs for Main Street Tour
Providence, RI— Today David Segal earned the endorsement of District 1199 SEIU, NEHCEU in his Congressional campaign in Rhode Island’s First District. District 1199 represents 4,000 health care workers in Rhode Island at hospitals, nursing homes, community health centers and developmentally disabled facilities.
“I am proud to stand with David Segal because he is a rare example of someone in politics who cares and organizes for working people,” said Sukie Ream a labor and delivery nurse at Women and Infants hospital. “I know as a Congressman he will fight for the dignity and rights of health care workers and patients in Washington.”
“It’s an honor to have the support of the people who care for Rhode Island,” David Segal said.
He continued to discuss the ties between the health care delivery system and economic recovery in Rhode Island. Segal also spoke of his commitment to protecting workers’ rights, expanding health care access in Rhode Island and to supporting workforce training programs that can help Rhode Island recruit and retain nurses and health care workers in the face of the state’s nursing shortage.
The endorsement comes at the end of the “Jobs for Main Street Tour,” during which David Segal highlighted components of his jobs and economic recovery plan that will put Rhode Island and the country back to work while building the foundation for a strong, healthy, green economy in future years.
At a press conference with District 1199 SEIU members, Segal said, “I’m honored to have the endorsement of so many wonderful people whom I’ve worked with for nearly a decade: As a State Representative and City Councilor I’ve worked with you to fight for an end to mandatory overtime and for safe staffing in our hospitals. Together we’ve stood up for child care providers and for a state budget that works for working families.”

Earlier today, Segal spoke in Woonsocket, outside of the Museum of Work and Culture.
“We can put Woonsocket back to work as we create the infrastructure for Rhode Island to lead the region in green jobs – the mills that have stood unused for decades can be full of activity again constructing the components of solar panels and wind turbines,” Segal said.
Segal discussed the need to protect U.S. jobs and family farms and by supporting the TRADE ACT, while also ensuring jobs are family wage jobs by supporting labor law reform like the Employee Free Choice Act and proposals that would promote equal pay for equal work.
